Additional PA Day for TDSB: April 15, 2016
Additional PA Day Letter information has been added to the calendars of all schools in the TDSB.
Social Media Presentation
A social media presentation was held at Swansea this week. Two Social Media Information Brief were presented by Chris Vollum: a daytime session for Gr. 5 – 8 students and an evening session for parents. We have attached the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram Privacy Tips from these workshops if you were unable to attend. Chris shared a number of social platforms and apps, as well as strategies to focus on building character, integrity, values and influence online while minimizing the risk of bullying, cyber-bullying and loss of reputation.
We would like to thank the Swansea Parent Council, and Chair of Education, Tiffany Scobie, for organizing this speaker.

Family Literacy Day
Family Literacy Day is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 and held annually on January 27 to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development. Even just 15 minutes a day can improve a child’s literacy skills dramatically, and can help a parent improve their skills as well.
We encourage Swansea families to have “15 Minutes of Fun” learning together every day. For a list of 15 new activities for 2016, please visit: http://abclifeliteracy.ca/fld/15-minutes-of-fun
Valentine’s Day Cards Fundraiser
The Neighbourhood DoDads FUNdraiser will be sending home an envelope containing your child’s beautiful, handmade artwork to be made into Valentine’s Cards that could distributed to classmates and friends. This order envelope needs to be filled out and returned back to their teacher no later than Friday, January 29th, so that the students can write on their cards and distribute them to their classmates and friends in time for Valentine’s Day.
The Holiday Greetings card campaign raised almost $1,000 for the school and we are looking forward to continuing to raise funds for Swansea PS!!!

We’re looking for interested volunteers to help combat the parking issues at Swansea. One idea that we’re looking at piloting in the spring is the Parent Safety Program’s Kiss n’ Ride. We would also welcome any other ideas that you may have. Please contact email@example.com for further information. Thank you!
What is the Parent Safety Program?
• The main purpose of the PSP is to eliminate or at least reduce the number of traffic hazards, which create a safety risk for children
• It is a Community based, non-confrontational program
• The program creates an organized “kiss ‘n’ ride” zone at the school during drop off and pick up
• The program depends on the active involvement of concerned parent volunteers
