Ward 7 update — TDSB funding needs & impact on our schools

At the February 16, 2011 Swansea Parent Council Meeting the large crowd in attendance heard Ward 7 School Trustee Irene Atkinson’s presentation on the current state of the TDSB Funding Needs and what this means for Swansea.  There was a great deal of concern voiced about the state of the building’s maintenance and the bleak outlook as more funding cuts are anticipated.

At her monthly meeting for Ward 7 School Representatives on March 1, 2011; Irene Atkinson presented the information to another large crowd and a spirited discussion followed.  Her presentation can be viewed here: http://www.swanseaps.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/final-ward-presentation-march-2011-jp-no-notes.pdf

The recommended course of Action for Swansea parents is to undertake a letter-writing campaign to the various responsible Provincial members of Parliament.  This has been commenced by some other area schools, and we would like to follow their lead and coordinate our campaign so that a large number of letters are received at the same time; for maximum impact.  We are currently drafting the letter for everyone’s use.  Please look for the letter in another Listserv notice in the week following the March break (March 21st- 25th).

Thank you.

Sally Chown & Robin Pilkey

Ward 7 Parent Representative for Swansea Public School
