Swansea Weekly Update March 9, 2017

Mumps in Toronto
Toronto Public Health has requested that the attached Mumps be sent home with students. As you may be aware, Toronto Public Health is investigating a mumps outbreak in the city. The mumps virus is found in saliva, and is spread through coughing, sneezing, kissing, and sharing drinks, utensils, food or water bottles. The risk in Toronto schools is low because most schools have high vaccination rates. However, a case has been identified at a Toronto school. Please see attached letter for more details.

Swansea is going cashless!
Right now, any school fees applicable to your child will be posted on School Cash Online. Once you register, you can choose to purchase the items or activities using a debit or credit card. You will be able to see when the school has a new item posted online for purchase and you will also have the option to be notified whenever your child has a new school event requiring payment. If you already have an account at another school, you just need to add your Swansea students – no need to create a new account!

To register for School Cash Online, please visit https://tdsb.schoolcashonline.com select “Get Started Today” and complete the three registration steps. If you have questions about the registration process or using School Cash Online, please select the “Get Help” option on the top of School Cash Online web page. You can also contact the School Cash Online Parent Help Desk at 1-866-961-1803 and parenthelp@schoolcashonline.com.

We are in the process of looking to see if this system can be used for Parent Council Events & Activities, but in the meantime if you are looking to buy Pub Night tickets, please use this link: Swansea Pub Night at the Crooked Cue

Snack Program for Primary Students
As we head into March break, we are making an effort to use up all food items that we have in our fridge to avoid food wastage. Since we can’t have any deliveries during the break, the snack program will be cancelled for the week of March 20-24th as we return to school and get our new orders delivered for the following week.

Family Literacy Night
Our inaugural Family Literacy Night was a great success! We had an author, student presentations, a local bookstore and parent workshops – little bit of everything for everyone. Feedback was very positive so this is definitely something we will be offering again. If you missed it this year, you can contact Ms.Legacy for some of the parent handouts and keep your ear to the ground for next year!
A special thanks to the Parent Council who sponsored this event and the teachers who created presentations tailored to our community needs.
