Swansea Weekly Update June 16, 2016

Countdown to Grade 8 Graduation:
There are less than two weeks before the Grade 8 graduation! We would like to thank everyone who has signed up to bring a food item to the reception and those who have volunteered to help with the dance.

We still need more food items for the pre-graduation reception from 5:00pm-6:00pm. Please click on the link to indicate what you are bringing.

    We still need more volunteers:

Decorating: We need 5 parents to help decorate the gym for the dance. Volunteers needed from 12pm-2pm on June 28th please email Alex at alexbulut@hotmail.com.
Clean Up: We need 2-3 volunteers to help clean up the gym after the dance. Volunteers needed from 10:00pm-10:30pm on June 28th (please email Margaret at gosiamk@gmail.com)

Information about the dance:
The Grad dance will start as soon as the graduation ceremony is complete and will end at 10:00pm. The dance is for grade 8 students only. The dance will be held in the community centre gym and is a Much Music Video Dance party. There will be one security guard and 4-5 parents chaperoning the dance. Students will sign in and will be given a wristband. Once they leave the dance the wristband is cut off and they are not allowed to re-enter. Parents are responsible for picking their children up at the end of the dance. Pizza, drinks and snacks will be served.

Thank you for your support!

Parent Volunteers- Ensure your Police Check is up-to-date
Yes, we know the school year is almost over. Getting a new police check approved can take some time, so if yours isn’t up-to-date (or you’re not sure) and you plan to volunteer next year, please visit Ms. George in the school office to either update an existing check or obtain the form to initiate a new check. Then you’ll be all set in September when volunteers are especially busy in the school. To help keep students safe, the TDSB asks that all parent volunteers have an updated police check on file in the school office. Thanks so much to all our amazing Parent Volunteers!

Volunteers Needed for Milk Day
Milk Day at Swansea is a popular and important program, but volunteers are needed to continue the program next year! The milk program runs during lunch from 10:30am to 12pm. However, if you’re not able to be at the school, there are other ways to help, such as ordering milk, or keeping track of orders and money. If you are interested in volunteering, or running the milk program for the 2016-17 school year, please email carinaneuman@gmail.com

Speed limit reduction proposal for Ward 13
A reminder that Councillor Doucette is seeking support for a proposal to reduce the speed limit to 30k on Ward 13’s local, residential roads.

Swansea Parent Council has already sent a letter backing the initiative but the Councillor is still looking for as much support from the community as possible. For more information and a link to the online petition please see the letter from Councillor Doucette’s office and a link to the Show your support for 30 km
