From the Principal’s Desk — Oct 25, 2011

On Monday, October 31st,  in the  afternoon,  we will be celebrating Halloween.  Our parade will start at 12:45 pm and students and staff will be walking through the Swansea neighbourhood – Lavinia, Deforest, Durie, Rennie Park, Waller.  Parent volunteers will be available on Monday morning to help students who did not wear a costume.

Anaphylaxis Awareness Week

October 24 – 28th is Anaphylaxis Awareness Week at Swansea.  This week we sent home a pamphlet on our Anaphylaxis policy and what we can do to keep our all of kids safe.  Parents are reminded to only send peanut/nut free snacks and Halloween treats with their children to school.

MS Read-a-thon

On Thursday, November 3rd we will be kicking-off Swansea’s MS Read-A-Thon!  This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to learn the importance of community involvement, social responsibility and disability awareness, all while developing their literacy skills!  Through reading your child will be helping those living with Multiple Sclerosis.

Our campaign will run from November 3rd to November 18th.  We will be having some competitions, like “Beat the Librarian”, and Class Race to 1000 minutes to further encourage our students to keep reading.  Look for the Reading Kits in your child’s backpack on November 3rd and get them to WEAR RED to the assembly to show their support!

Photo Retake Day

Photo retake day is scheduled for Monday, November 7th.  This is for students who were absent on photo day.  Any other student who wishes to have their photo retaken must bring in their original pictures and a signed note from their parent requesting a retake.

Used Clothing Donation

The Out of the Cold program at St. Margaret’s Church, where I volunteer, is looking for mens’ jackets, coats, hoodies, boots and jeans.  If anyone has any of these items they wish to donate please drop them off at the office.
