Martin Luther King Tribute
On Monday afternoon our grade 7 students had the honour of participating in the TDSB Tribute to Martin Luther King at Roy Thompson Hall. They joined other schools in providing the back-up chorus for several songs during this performance. Mrs. West worked tirelessly to prepare the students for this event so thank you to her and to the staff and parents who helped supervise the students for both the practice on Sunday and the Monday performance. Our grade 7’s did us proud during this performance.
Family Literacy Day
Swansea will be celebrating Family Literacy Day on Thursday, January 27th. The theme this year is Play for Literacy. Students will be exploring different games in their classes that provide both literacy and numeracy opportunities. An information sheet will be distributed to all students about activities they can do at home.
In the evening students from Kindergarten to Grade 3 are invited to attend a Teddy Bear Picnic. Invitations will be sent home this week. We encourage all families to come out and enjoy an hour of stories and songs and enjoy a bedtime snack. Don’t forget to wear your pyjamas and bring your teddy bear.
Family Math Night
Swansea School Council and staff are organizing a Family Math Night for Thursday, February 24th. Mark you calendars and come out and find out ways you can help your child succeed in math.

Swansea Music is sponsoring a Gamelon Workshop on Monday, January 24 from 3:30 – 4:45. If you are interested please contact the school at 416-393-9080 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Professional Development Day
Swansea School will be closed on Friday, January 21st so teachers can work on Professional Development activities.
It has been a tradition for Swansea students to go skating at Rennie Rink. While this is a wonderful winter activity for students it is not always possible to go skating as often as we wish. Swansea students are involved in a number of varied activities in addition to their regular academic program. Teachers will try to arrange for students to go once or twice during the winter, but it is not possible to go on a weekly basis. Teachers will inform parents of their skating schedule and parents are always welcome to come out and assist. It is now a requirement that all TDSB staff and students wear an approved CSA –approved hockey helmet on the ice. Happy skating!
