Facebook 101 –  Who are your children REALLY sharing with?

The Safe Schools Committee has organized a parent information session about Facebook on Thursday, February 16th at 7:00 pm.  This session was arranged so it would coincide with parent-teacher interviews.    An information flyer will be sent home with the report cards.

Lost and Found

As we are nearing the end of Term One the lost and found items are being sorted and readied to be taken to a local charity depot.  Please ensure you check the lost and found for your missing gloves, hats, coats, boots, etc.  All remaining items will be cleaned on February 21st.

Pink Day

On February 29, 2012 our entire school community will wear pink T-shirts that we have tie-dyed ourselves to symbolize that we do not tolerate BULLYING.  On this day we will have our Character Education assembly where we will recognise students who demonstrate the attribute of the month “Fairness” and students who show “Random Acts of Kindness”.  In classrooms teachers will focus on several anti–bullying activities, including a “No-Means-No Program” in the senior division.

We have invited the media to capture how we at Swansea say NO to BULLYING. Please help us reduce bullying in our community by talking to your children about playing fair and being kind to one another.

World Math Day

This year World Math Day will be taking place on March 6, 2012 and the host city is Sydney, Australia!  This is the 2nd year Swansea is participating in this event and we hope that we will score big and win the GOLD medal.

The objective of this event is for students to have an opportunity to compete against other students from around the world in basic number sense and numeration (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing).  At the end of each scheduled test the student will get immediate feedback as to how well they did on each question.  For each correct question on the actual day of the competition Swansea will score points.  The more points we get the closer we move to international recognition!

Very shortly, all students will receive their own individual username and password. They will be getting this information from their homeroom teacher.  Once students get their login information they can click on the link above which will direct them to the World Math Day home screen.  This is a great way for students to practice their basic math skills and an excellent way for parents to support their child at home as they strengthen their math computational skills!

Looking forward to a great World Math Day On March 6th 2012!
