Over the past few weeks there have been several safety alerts, both in the Swansea community and neighboring areas. These remind us that we need to be alert to strangers in our hallways and are our playgrounds.
Safety Alerts will be posted to Swansea parents when:
- Students/parents report an incident in the Swansea community and police are contacted
- Police contact the school about an incident in the immediate community that they feel could be a threat to Swansea students
Student Entry and Exit
If parents are in the hallways during entry and exit it makes it difficult for staff to recognize a stranger. Teachers greet students outside in the morning and at lunch and they dismiss students at their designated door at lunch and after school. We ask ALL parents to please leave students with their teacher and not accompany them to their class. The teacher is focused on getting his/her students safely into the classroom – they do not have time to discuss individual concerns with parents. If you a message for the teacher you can write it in your child’s agenda, give them a note or leave a message for them at the office.
It is important that students arrive to school on time. If a student arrives late there is no supervision in the school yard, and few people in the hallways to ensure your child gets to his/her class safely.
Below is a list of the start and end times for each division.

Student Drop Off and Pick Up
Our drop-off areas are crowded at the best of times, but as the snow piles build they will get even smaller. Dropping off your child on Windermere Avenue is a very unsafe practice, especially with the addition of ice and snow. The official drop off location is on Waller Avenue, from which students can safely walk into our playground area. Our parking lot is for staff parking and is very congested – when entering this parking lot please drive slowly and use extreme caution. DO NOT park where you will block other cars. Taking a few extra minutes to ensure your child is dropped off safely is worth it.
We have been meeting with Councillor Doucette to review the traffic congestion around Swansea School. We will be updating parents as we move towards lessening this congestion.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in keeping Swansea students safe.
