From the Principal’s Desk – Dec. 21, 2011

As we wind down for the holidays I would like to thank everyone for their assistance and support this year.  We have had numerous events where parents, staff and students have had the opportunity to meet and celebrate together. We have raised a lot of money that has gone towards supporting our school programs, such as library, gym and music.  And our students have done amazing in both their classroom work and extra-curricular activities.  We all now get to take a well deserved break.

Wishing everyone Happy Holidays and looking forward to working with you again in 2012.

– Karen Ridley, Principal

Swansea Day

On Friday, December 23rd we are asking everyone to wear their Swansea colours (blue).  We will be having an assembly to recognize the accomplishments of our students during this past term – athletics, music, character education.

Skating has begun at Rennie Park again, and many classes have already had a chance to skate a few laps around the rink.  We lend skates out to students who do not have skates but due to popular demand, we have run out of girls’ skates, sizes 3 – 6.  Any donations would be much appreciated and can be dropped off to Mrs. Balzereit, room 117.  We are also looking for a parent volunteer to help manage the skate room, please contact Mrs. B. if you can assist with this.

Holiday Fund

Thank you to everyone who donated to Swansea’s Holiday Fund.  This year we were able to give out over $2000 in gift cards to support our families in need over the holidays.

Tree of Giving

The Me to We group met their goal and will be donating over 100 toys to the LAMP Toy Drive and $250.00 to Free The Children. Thank you to Ms. Legacy for all of her hard work in coordinating this effort and thank you to all the members of the Me to We group for the fabulous Craft week.

Calling All Boys (and Men)!

The Swansea Junior and Senior Choirs are once again partnering with the Upper Canada Choristers under the leadership of Laurie Evan Fraser for our Spring Concerts. The UCC is providing additional support to our boys in the form of four boys-only rehearsals. The men from the UCC will come to Swansea to rehearse with the Swansea boys on these dates:

Mondays from 7:00 to 8:30 pm: Jan 16, Feb 6, Mar 5, Apr 2

We are hoping that as many boys as possible from grades 4 to 8 will join the Swansea choirs this term and take advantage of this unique opportunity to sing with an all-male chorus. Swansea alumni, parents and friends are also very welcome to join in.

Please note. All junior/senior choir members will be involved in the following:

  • Apr 17 Swansea Spring Concert (Windermere United Church), 7 pm
  • Apr 30 Dress Rehearsal with UCC, 7- 8:30 pm
  • May 4 Concert with UCC (Grace Church on the Hill), 8 pm
