On Tuesday night we had the pleasure of listening to our talented music students perform at the Windermere United Church. Our strings and band students performed under the direction of their itinerant music instructors and played a variety of lively songs. Our Ace Recorder group performed songs from the 16th century, with period costumes to add authenticity to their performance. Our choirs were joined by the Upper Canada Choristers, who provided a wonderful support to our young singers. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this a wonderful evening of music and song, especially to Mrs. West, who works tirelessly to provide all of our students a premier music program. I think we all agreed that “Everyone loves Saturday Night!”.

Last week there was a robbery in Rennie Park around 10:00 pm. Police were called and they set up a perimeter and caught 1 person, who has been charged. They are still searching for 1 or 2 more suspects. Police have increased their patrols of the park (bike and car patrols) and this will continue throughout the summer. Police are asking kids not to congregate in the park after dark.
Due to scheduling issues some grade 8 students missed their grad photos. The photographer will be returning on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 1st to complete grad photos and retakes are scheduled for the afternoon of Monday, May 14th.

Swansea Ecoschools Update
In our quest for Ecoschools Gold, here are some important dates and information:
May 1th – Mieke Foster of Ecoschools will be at Swansea in the morning for our second waste audit. We desperately need one or two parents to help organize the students.
May 4th – Councillor Sarah Doucette will be joining us for our schoolyard clean-up in the afternoon. Parents are welcome to come along and help as well. Rubber gloves provided.
Apples: We love our Apple program! But we want to compost the cores. We need resealable containers so classes can collect apple left-overs and take them to the compost bin outside the kindergarten rooms.
One plant per classroom: Recently, Swansea enjoyed a visit by former student Nicholas Montgomery, who shared information about his exciting initiative – http://oneplantperclass.org/. With cuttings from Ms. Balzereit, we have already made some new plants for classrooms.
May 14th- Lisa Fisk of Ecoschools will be conducting a final audit to determine how we did this year. We will have to wait until September for feedback on our progress.
