What kind of future do you want for pools and swimming in Toronto? PLEASE JOIN US FOR THE SECOND AQUATIC SUMMIT Wednesday June 1st, 2011 Central YMCA, 20 Grosvenor Street (by Wellesley Subway) 5-7 pm
Swansea Community Centre Pool affected. Its lease expires December 31, 2011.
With the support of David Crombie and the Aquatics Working Group we were able to secure capital funding from the Province of Ontario and ongoing support from the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) to keep 31 pools open. Thanks to the efforts of pool captains, volunteers and stakeholders, permits continue to increase at these pools – it is this increased use that was (and continues to be) critical to making the case to keep the pools open. In addition to the pools discussed in 2008, there are 33 other pools owned by the TDSB. These 33 pools are leased by the City and the lease expires December 31st, 2011.
The City, the TDSB and the Toronto Lands Corporation (TLC) on behalf of the TDSB are in the initial stages in the preparation for renewing the lease agreement for these 33 pools and expect a decision on the lease to be debated at Toronto City Council in the fall.
