Dear Parents and Guardians:
We have been advised by the French as a Second Language Advisory Committee (FSLAC) that the TDSB is looking to phase out the Grade 7 Extended French program by September 2012. Swansea has been a host school for many years and is the only school in Ward 7 to offer this program.
Currently there are two entry points for Extended French at Swansea, Grade 4 and Grade 7. There are 14 schools in Ward 7 that feed into Swansea for the Extended 7 French program plus a few from other Wards.
Swansea French Students can continue towards their French bilingual certificate by continuing at Humberside C.I. for Grade 9 -12.
The proposal for phasing out this program was made a few weeks ago and the TDSB is not planning any consultation with parents before the staff send their recommendation to a Programs and School Services Committee meeting on January 21, 2009. The recommendation will then be sent to the TDSB Board meeting on February 4th where the Trustees will vote on whether this program will continue or not.
In order that we can represent the views of our parents at Swansea on this program we ask that you please complete our survey, by no later than Monday, December 15th.
We are planning a public meeting in early January and inviting the TDSB to come and present their proposal. Once the date and location are confirmed we will let you know.
Thank you for taking the few minutes to complete the survey. Should you have any comments you would like to add please feel free to do so and return with the survey.
